Modern Kids Beds for the New Decade!
January 8, 2010
There are many different types of modern kids beds that you can choose for your kids’ rooms. When your son or daughter finally outgrows the crib, it becomes time for him to move into his very own junior bed. They come in all shapes and themes. Put simply, your children will outgrow their cribs quickly, but a standard full bed is just too big. Indeed, versatile and modern kids beds are more popular than ever, bridging the gap between infancy and young-adulthood.
A kids trundle bed is one of your many options. Trundles can also be single units, low to the floor, with under the bed storage. Trundle beds rarely come equipped with box springs, relying on a futon-like setup. Trundle beds are the best compromise today of high-comfort and superior space efficiency in kids bedroom furniture.
For kids who don’t care to share a room with others, a single kids platform bed is a better choice. Kids platform beds often have many storage drawers beneath their rigid platform frame. A captains bed, is like a platform bed, but higher off the floor, and it almost always has several rows of drawers. Most of them are built with some sort of restraint to keep your kid from rolling out of bed. They are usually modern in design.
Bunk beds have been around forever. They are great when you have two kids sharing a small room, but have the disadvantage of having the upper bed quite high from the floor, making it somewhat unsafe for toddlers, and difficult for moms to make. This is another reason why loft beds are the new trend.
Kids loft beds are the perfect choice for anyone who has limited floor space, has to share a room, or who wants furniture that can grow with the child’s needs. If you are buying permanent furniture for your teenager, you have a number of choices available to you. You can choose to use the space under the loft as a small sitting area, place an entertainment center in it, use it for study space (desk, bookcase), place a dresser or dressing table there, or make an L-shaped setup by placing a twin bed in the opening.
The beauty of this is that it can be changed as their needs and desires change. A college-bound kid can take the loft bed with her, continuing its usefulness and providing plenty of space for sleep, storage, and studying.
Younger kids have lots of room to grow, so a modular loft bed may be a great choice as far as sleeping surfaces go! A modular loft bed is made up of modules that are easily exchanged, without disassembling the whole unit. For example, you can start with a single bed that is at a low height, with storage drawers under it, and as the child gets older, simply change it with a mid or high-loft kit, which will raise the bed, add a ladder, and enable you to add various other modules under it because of the new added space. Be sure to complete the modular kids bed with protective guard rails. These modern loft beds are portable, adaptable, and perfect for anyone with limited space!
